Leon Marks GolfSchool Luxembourg
As a golf coach for over 20 years, I have seen many ways how people can improve. Sometimes slight delicate changes can make differences, while other times it feels like a huge overhaul, just to advance a small amount. To me, I’m impartial to the way a golfer wishes to improve their game, what is most important to me as a coach, is developing a great relationship and partnership with my golfers so that we can combat the challenges together.
I have been a golf Professional since I was legally allowed to be one. I always played sports whether it was squash, rugby, surfing, you name it, I did it. Golf was the only one that beat me. It was the first sport that I could not comprehend and the one that frustrated me the most, so much that I quit golf.
Now quitting a sport at 12 and restarting at 14 is only 2 years, but in those two years, I had learned that if I was to master this game, it would take hard work, dedication and a passion for it.
The passion I had, and I would like to think that the hard work and dedication has brought me to where I am today, and will continue me on in the future.
I won the U16 Welsh Championship and when I was 16 years old, had a handicap of 1. Anything else around my life that was not golf related was simply not worth my time.
I started working as an assistant to the professional, helping in the golf shop and teaching a few people on weekends before finally, at the ripe old age of 18 when I was allowed to turn professional.
I played tournaments winning the South Wales PGA Championship, assistant events whilst I qualified myself as a PGA Professional. The PGA Program takes nearly 4 years, learning about teaching, club repairs, rules and business.
For me, the game of golf is what infatuates me still.
Unfortunately, at a relatively young age, I injured my back which took me out of tournaments . I turned then to teaching as it was the next best thing.
I moved to the Netherlands where I stayed for 1 year before moving to Luxembourg where I have now been for 15 years.
In the 15 years so far, I have been National trainer, National champion numerous times, Captain and player of the Luxembourg Professional team, Chairman of the Luxembourg PGA and now I am proud to be the Director of GolfSchool Luxembourg at Golf de Luxembourg.
Since being in Luxembourg, I have pioneering many changes and seen innovations that have changed golf in Luxembourg and the world.
Even now at 38 years old, my passion for golf is colossal, but it has moved further from the playing, more towards the coaching side. Even though I love playing, I am discovering the immense pleasure of seeing my golfers mature and progress.
I am constantly educating myself with anything related to golf, whether it is a new methodology, technology, equipment or even a new golfing destination. I qualified myself as a gym instructor to learn more about the bodies limitations and how to improve a golfers range of movement. I qualified myself as a Golf Psychologist to better understand my golfers anxieties, fears and jitters, so that I can aid with their confidence, assurance and confidence.
I was the first Flightscope Certified and Swing catalyst golf Professional in Luxembourg. Qualifying oneself is simply proof of an accepted level, but to me, I simply would prefer to know so that after I have tested out a theory and I believe it works, I can help my golfers to an even better standard.
So, how can I help?
If you have never played golf before, then I plead you to try one time with me. You will not regret it.
Many people say ‘I will start when I retire’
In my experience, when people start, they all wished that they had started when they were younger. I have golfers who could not even throw a ball 5 meters and high level sport athletes that learn everyday.
I offer coaching for all levels, ages from 5 upwards, group or individual.
I take golfers on holidays around the world, from Scotland to Spain to Dominican Republic to name a few.
I really enjoy working with families who wish to learn together and I have a large junior group with of 60 children learning on the weekends.
I arrange camps for the kids every week during the holidays from 9:30 – 15:30 Monday to Fridays.
Golfers can enjoy a simple 3 – 10 km walk with friends in the most beautiful prepared gardens around the world or battle against 150 other competitors over 4 days.
The choice is yours, but I can help you find what suits you best. I believe that the game has so many areas that can be explored, learned and enjoyed that everyone can find something fabulous in golf.
